#40 Uni-Wax
PM0040
#40 Uni-Wax is a heavy-duty mounting and blocking media for machining, polishing, and dicing, suitable for affixing flat surfaces of work pieces directly to machinable mounts (mounting blocks that will be cut into during machining). It has excellent holding power, machines clearly, and will not load or gum up thin cutting blades and wire. However, #40 Uni-Wax is a brittle polymer and should not be used for small area or point contact mounting. It was designed for bonding two flat surfaces. Application
#40 Uni-Wax is widely used to mount silicon wafers for dicing, scribing, ultrasonic grinding, back lapping, and polishing. It is used to hold electronic and optical materials where a flat face is to be bonded to the mount. Experience dictates the best working temperature for a particular job. Use a hot plate to heat the mounting block to the desired temperature (usually 75 to 100°C). Trim the cardboard case away from the tip of the wax stick and apply directly to the hot mounting surface. As the wax melts, spread it thinly and evenly. Place the work-piece or wafer on the mount and work it gently into the wax until it is positioned properly. Remove from heat. Below 70°C, the wax crystallizes rapidly, forming a tenacious bond between the wafer and the mounting plate. To remove the wafers or finished work pieces from the mount, soak in hot water or a solvent (like acetone or methyl ethyl ketone) at room temperature for about 10 minutes. If a non-hydrocarbon solvent is preferred, try UPI’s Uniclear or Uniclear II solvents. The use of a heated ultrasonic bath accelerates the removal and clean-up process. If heating a solvent follow all relevant safety instructions and abide by all safety warnings in the solvents SDS. Finally, rinse the wafers in a mild solution of ammonium hydroxide and rinse with deionized water. Benefits
